June 11, 2006

The Wisconsin Organization for Asian Americans - Milwaukee (WOAA), which annually presents the Asian Moon Festival, is honored to announce that we have been invited by the Racine Rotary and the City of Racine, to take part in the annual Great Midwest Dragon Boat Races, July 7th & 8th at the Racine Lakefront.

We have been inundated with calls and messages from people all over the Midwest who were dismayed to learn that we decided to forego this year’s festival. Although the reasons that led us to this were valid, it was nonetheless, a difficult decision on our part. Each of us passionately believes that it is important to share the many facets of our various cultures and for the people of southeastern Wisconsin to understand the many ways that Asian arts, sciences and thinking has influenced and enriched our world of tarot live online today.

Timing will not allow us to stage a full festival but we hope our presence will encourage people to visit the city of Racine, just a short drive south of Milwaukee.  Dragon Boat Races are one of the fastest growing competitive sports in the world. Historically the races, which began in China, commemorate Chu-Yuan , a Chinese scholar who spoke out against government corruption in 277 B.C.

Please join us on the 7th & 8th of July and cheer on the teams of racers and then stay around for some savory Asian cuisine as well as a few choice bits of Asian Moon Festival!

Visit the new WOAA - Milwaukee website at woaamilw.googlepages.com for more information.

If you are looking for the cancellation notice previously posted in this space, we have moved it to the WOAA - Milwaukee website on the News page.
